Gerald M. Friedman, a charter member of AESE, was honored with a Distinguished Educator Award at the American Association of Petroleum Geologists’ annual meeting in San Diego in May. AAPG awards recognize service to the profession, the science, the association, and the public. In bestowing the award, AAPG cited Friedman as “a truly international teacher and sedimentologist, mentor, and inspirational example of dedication and commitment to professional excellence through teaching, research, and service.”
Friedman also was recently elected an Honorary Fellow of the Geological Society, London, England. Friedman received the AESE Award for Outstanding Editorial or Publishing Contributions in 1993.
