Candidate for Director,
1997-1999: Faith Rogers

Faith Rogers has been managing editor for the Geological Society of America since 1984, and managing editor of the GSA newsletter (now called “GSA Today”) since 1983. She was also managing editor of “Geology” magazine from 1979 through 1995. She has been with GSA since 1972.

Faith joined AESE in 1976, was technical program chair of the 1990 annual meeting in Tulsa, and was on the AGI Communications Advisory Committee from 1992 through 1994.

Candidate for Vice President,
1997: Carol Hjellming

Carol Hjellming says she switched her academic interest from English to chemistry during the years she spent rearing children and moving around the United States. She also changed to popular geology while on vacations. Then, she accepted a job in earth science editing at the New Mexico Bureau of Mines and Mineral Resources, New Mexico State Geological Survey, in 1984. She has edited “New Mexico Geology” since 1988 and is now an associate editor at the Bureau. She has worked on projects ranging from large-format statewide and regional atlases to small-format, four-color postcards of minerals in the Bureau’s Mineral Museum collections. She has edited works on economic geology, mineral resources, mineralogy, oil and gas, stratigraphy, and biostratigraphy that were written by authors who live in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, and New Zealand.

Carol has attended AESE meetings since 1984 and has been a member since 1988.
