Carol Hjellming says she switched her academic interest from English to chemistry during the years she spent rearing children and moving around the United States. She also changed to popular geology while on vacations. Then, she accepted a job in earth science editing at the New Mexico Bureau of Mines and Mineral Resources, New Mexico State Geological Survey, in 1984. She has edited New Mexico Geology since 1988 and is now an associate editor at the Bureau. She has worked on projects ranging from large-format statewide and regional atlases to small-format, four-color postcards of minerals in the Bureaus Mineral Museum collections. She has edited works on economic geology, mineral resources, mineralogy, oil and gas, stratigraphy, and biostratigraphy that were written by authors who live in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, and New Zealand.
Carol has attended AESE meetings since 1984 and has been a member since 1988.
